NISENet’s NanoDays 2014 took place at museums and schools around the country, and it is a great way for the public to learn about nanoscale science and engineering by chatting with scientists and engaging in hands-on learning activities.

UC-CEIN celebrated Women’s History Month at the Santa Monica Public Library by hosting a discussion with three women PhDs from the UC Center for Environmental Implications of Nanotechnology (UC-CEIN). Panelists Elise Fairbairn, Hilary Godwin, and Ivy Ji discussed nanoscience and the environment as well as why interdisciplinary research at UC-CEIN is important for society.

The Sustainable Nanotechnology Organization (SNO) held its 2nd Annual Conference in Santa Barbara, CA. Building on the success of the 1st conference, they seek to enhance participation of industry and policy-makers, and to include more presentations and discussions on applications of nanotechnology that promote sustainability (energy, water, resources), life cycle assessment, economic evaluations of the benefits and costs of nanotechnology, and sustainable manufacturing of nano-enabled devices.
