On Friday, February 17th, 2012 the CEIN was honored to host a visit by EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson. Administrator Jackson was in Southern California promoting public health, the environment, and jobs creation by the Obama administration. She chose to visit the Center and spent a short time in the middle of a busy day taking a quick tour of our labs in the UCLA CNSI building and meeting with Center faculty, researchers, and students.
During her visit to UCLA, Administrator Jackson was given a demonstration of Postdoc Sijie Lin's automatic zebrafish plating robotic system, learned about the data management group's High Throughput Data web based analysis tool from Postdoc Rong Liu and Data Manager Taimur Hassan, and received a brief introduction to the MSSR facility by MSSR Scientific Director Robert Damoiseaux.
Administrator Jackson expressed appreciation of the work going on across the Center and indicated that EPA is proud to be co-funders of the Center. She was struck by how the integration of our research across disciplines allows us to learn about the properties of new nanomaterials and their potential environmental implications in a way that allows for rapid feedback and enables safe design.
